MaritimeMET to showcase its findings on measurement science for clean maritime technologies at an open hybrid workshop hosted by RISE

The MaritimeMET project will host an open hybrid workshop on Thursday, 10 December 2026, at RISE – Research Institutes of Sweden in Borås, Sweden. Titled From Emission to Dynamic Quantities: Measurement Techniques & Best Practices, the event will showcase MaritimeMET’s progress in improving the traceability and reliability of measurements of emissions, dynamic pressure and temperature, supporting the transition towards cleaner and more efficient maritime transport. You can register for the workshop here (remember you can access it on-site and online).

Maritime sector context

The maritime sector is rapidly adopting new technologies and alternative fuels to meet ambitious sustainability goals. Engine manufacturers, for example, are developing solutions based on methanol, ammonia, hydrogen, and other low-carbon fuels. Yet, demonstrating the environmental and operational benefits of these innovations requires one essential ingredient: reliable and comparable measurements.

Accurate measurements of emissions, dynamic pressure and temperature, and other key parameters are critical for validating performance, supporting regulatory compliance, and accelerating the uptake of cleaner technologies. This is where metrology, the science of measurement, plays a vital role. Through collaborative research programmes, EURAMET helps strengthen Europe’s measurement infrastructure, providing the trusted measurement capabilities needed to support industrial innovation and the transition to a more sustainable maritime sector.

MaritimeMET’s contribution

The MaritimeMET project addresses some of the most pressing measurement challenges facing the maritime industry today. Within WP1, the project is establishing and advancing the traceability of emission measurements, enabling greater confidence in emissions data used for compliance, technology validation, and environmental reporting. In WP2, partners are advancing standards and methodologies for dynamic pressure and temperature measurements, ensuring accurate measurements under the transient operating conditions typical of modern maritime large engine systems.

To share progress and engage with stakeholders across the maritime value chain, the MaritimeMET consortium invites industry, researchers, regulators, and metrology experts to a workshop. If interested in joining, registration is already open by clicking here (on-site attendance will be open until Monday, 16 November). You can also access the provisional agenda.
